If you’re ever in Chicago, you should hit up Apero in North Center/Lincoln Square. Last summer, I went in there with my book to have a singular glass at the bar with the intention of walking the short walk back home after, and instead I was talking with everyone at the bar and the staff. Had such a good time I forgot to bring my debit card back home with me and had to crawl back in the next morning to get it from them 😂
I am a regular now because I live criminally close, but it was a great time! The owner is fantastic, and it always feels like a little European holiday for me. They’re very generous about their samples which is how I found myself in ^^^ that situation hahaha. Loved this piece; more people should be embracing whimsy like this!
I’ve been meaning to try this out but haven’t had the chance to yet! I really enjoy eating dinner alone (especially in places I’m visiting) as it gives me an opportunity to explore mindlessly and be open to spontaneous situations. Curious to know, what are some other memorable people you’ve met?
Well, now I get to be on the other side of the bar because I work at a wine bar, so that’s been really fun. I met a lovely woman the other day who sells vintage and another woman who was an artist in Ibiza. I talk to a lot of people about what they’re reading at the bar and I get great recommendations that way.
I’m reading table for two right now—and loving it—but thought it might be too bulky to bring out, but you’ve changed my mind! 🥂
This was a delightful read! I smiled at the entire Bruce story.
Thank you so much for reading 💕

Thank you that means so much!! If you want more whimsy, I was just bar hopping in Hong Kong: https://substack.com/@alisonhutchison/note/c-87811120?r=i012&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action (if I could figure out how to gift this to your for free I totally would but I’m not sure it’s possible)
